The detective division serves as the investigative branch of the Oak Bluffs Police Department. Detectives are responsible for investigating major crimes and incidents  which include but are not limited to homicides, sexual assaults, robberies, burglaries, drug offenses, assault & batteries and unattended deaths. Detectives will conduct follow-up investigations into incidents that were initially fielded by patrol officers when needed.

Detectives of the O.B.P.D. are assigned to the Martha's Vineyard Drug Task Force which is a regional drug unit that directs its efforts towards investigating drug violations that occur on Martha's Vineyard.
